Who’s feet are making mysterious stepping sounds through the halls late at night?

“Footsteps. Or, more specifically, the footsteps sounded like someone with boots on slowly walking and scuffling their heels against the floor. And to make it worse, the footsteps were coming in my direction. It sounded as if the footsteps started at the edge between the kitchen and dining room, and I counted something between 6 and 9 footsteps before the noise stopped.

Right at the entranceway of the hallway… facing my bathroom. Not thinking twice, I threw some clothes on and hurried to my parents’ bedroom. They were both sound asleep at the time, and I was the only other person in the house.”
