“We had a tiny TV with a built in VCR and I was watching a tape of classic cartoons. I would usually be unable to be moved from my favorite animated heroes, but something made me turn my head. The hall just outside the kitchen led to my parents’ room with a bathroom just before you got to their door. Coming from the bathroom was a hunched, little old lady with her hands clasped as if praying. I, for some reason, got up and peered down the long hall as she had headed for the living room, but she was gone, and I never saw her again.”
