5 Creepy Christmas Ghost Stories
Sure, everyone knows the Christmas ghost story of Scrooge and the three ghosts. However most people in the US don’t know many Christmas ghost stories beyond this classic.
Christmas ghost stories have long been an integral part of the holiday season. Unfortunately outside of the area where many of these Christmas ghost stories originate in the UK, they are not well known by the masses.
Earlier in the year I wrote a new book that featured 13 classic ghost stories from around the world. It was increasingly interesting to see just how much the act of telling ghost stories has not changed in centuries!
What is very interesting is the fact that historic literary ghost stories seem to get even darker and more sinister the further we get from Halloween. Not exactly what one would expect!
That is why I was incredibly excited when I saw that The Paris Review has published a list of some classic Christmas horror stories, complete with a synopsis of each!
Here are 5 Classic Christmas Ghost Stories to read by the fire with the lights out.
“Between the Lights,” by E. F. Benson (1912)
“The Kit-Bag,” by Algernon Blackwood (1908)
“A Strange Christmas Game,” by J. H. Riddell (1863)
“Christmas Re-union,” by Sir Andrew Caldecott (1912)
“Smee,” by A. M. Burrage (1931)
