Recorded Footsteps

A child records the sounds of unexplained footsteps late in the night. Who did they belong to, and did they ever go away?

Here is a preview of the story.
“After 12 O’clock, I heard two footsteps, maybe from the apartment above ours, but my bed vibrated, it vibrated as beds normally vibrate when someone stomps near it. After two or three minutes, I heard the footsteps again, I turned on the lights, but there was nothing. I ran out of the room and filled a bottle with holy water. I came back into the room, and a few minutes after I turned off the light, I heard the footsteps again. I sprinkled some holy water in that direction, and again after a few minutes, I heard the footsteps again. This time I sprinkled holy water in the whole room, and the footsteps were gone. An hour or two went, and suddenly I heard two footsteps, and my bed vibrated again. I was too tired, so I was sprinkling holy water in the direction and fell asleep sprinkling it.”
